Dear Students,

Welcome to Great Heights School! We are delighted that you have chosen to be part of our academic community. This handbook is designed to provide you with essential information about the policies, procedures, and resources that will guide your educational journey at GHS.

At Great Heights School, we are committed to fostering an environment of academic excellence, personal growth, and community engagement. We encourage you to take full advantage of the diverse opportunities available to you, both inside and outside the classroom.

This handbook serves as a reference guide throughout your time at GHS. Please familiarize yourself with its contents and refer to it whenever you have questions about university policies or procedures.

2. Academic Policies

2.1 Academic Calendar

The academic year at GHS consists of two semesters (Fall and Spring) and an optional Summer session. Please refer to the Academic Calendar for specific dates.

2.2 Registration

Students must register for courses during the designated registration periods. Registration is conducted through the Student Portal. Students are advised to consult with their academic advisors before registering for courses.

2.3 Course Load

The standard course load for full-time undergraduate students is 15-18 credit hours per semester. Graduate students typically take 9-12 credit hours per semester. Students wishing to take more than the maximum credit hours must obtain approval from their academic advisor and the Dean of their faculty.

2.4 Grading System

GHS uses a letter grading system with corresponding grade points:

  • A (Excellent): 4.0
  • A- (Very Good): 3.7
  • B+ (Good): 3.3
  • B (Good): 3.0
  • B- (Above Average): 2.7
  • C+ (Average): 2.3
  • C (Average): 2.0
  • C- (Below Average): 1.7
  • D+ (Poor): 1.3
  • D (Poor): 1.0
  • F (Failure): 0.0

2.5 Academic Standing

Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 to remain in good academic standing. Students whose GPA falls below 2.0 will be placed on academic probation. Students on probation for two consecutive semesters may be subject to academic dismissal.

2.6 Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is expected in all courses. Students who miss more than 25% of class sessions may receive a failing grade for the course, regardless of their academic performance. Specific attendance requirements may vary by course and instructor.

2.7 Academic Integrity

GHS is committed to maintaining high standards of academic integrity. Academic dishonesty, including plagiarism, cheating, and fabrication, will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action, including course failure or dismissal from the university.

3. Student Rights and Responsibilities

3.1 Student Rights

All students at GHS have the right to:

  • Receive quality education and fair evaluation of their academic performance
  • Access university facilities, resources, and services
  • Freedom of expression and association within the bounds of university policies
  • Privacy of their educational records in accordance with applicable laws
  • Fair treatment and due process in all university proceedings
  • A safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment

3.2 Student Responsibilities

All students at GHS are responsible for:

  • Adhering to university policies, rules, and regulations
  • Maintaining academic integrity in all academic work
  • Respecting the rights and dignity of all members of the university community
  • Using university facilities, resources, and services responsibly
  • Participating actively in the learning process
  • Meeting financial obligations to the university in a timely manner

4. Code of Conduct

The GHS Code of Conduct establishes standards of behavior expected of all members of the university community. Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action.

4.1 Prohibited Conduct

The following behaviors are prohibited:

  • Academic dishonesty
  • Disruptive behavior that interferes with university activities
  • Physical or verbal abuse, harassment, or intimidation
  • Theft, damage, or vandalism of university property
  • Possession or use of illegal drugs or weapons on campus
  • Unauthorized access to university facilities or resources
  • Violation of university policies or regulations

4.2 Disciplinary Procedures

Alleged violations of the Code of Conduct will be addressed through the university's disciplinary procedures, which ensure fair treatment and due process for all parties involved. Sanctions for violations may include warnings, probation, suspension, or expulsion, depending on the nature and severity of the offense.

5. Campus Services

5.1 Academic Support Services

GHS offers various academic support services, including:

  • Writing Center: Provides assistance with writing assignments and research papers
  • Math Lab: Offers tutoring and support for mathematics courses
  • Language Center: Provides resources and assistance for language learning
  • Academic Advising: Helps students plan their academic programs and make informed decisions

5.2 Library Services

The Central Library provides access to a wide range of resources, including books, journals, databases, and multimedia materials. Library services include reference assistance, interlibrary loan, and research consultations.

5.3 Career Services

The Career Center offers career counseling, resume and cover letter reviews, interview preparation, job search assistance, and career fairs to help students prepare for their professional futures.

5.4 Counseling Services

The Counseling Center provides confidential counseling and psychological services to help students address personal, emotional, and mental health concerns.
